Unciv

Unciv is a free, open-source 4X turn-based strategy game inspired by Sid Meier’s Civilization. Developed by Yair Morgenstern and a dedicated community since 2018, Unciv is available on Android, Windows, Linux, and macOS, and is distributed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.

Gameplay and Features

Unciv captures the core mechanics of Civilization V, including city-building, technology research, diplomacy, and warfare. Players can pursue various victory conditions such as science, culture, domination, diplomacy, and time. While it incorporates content from the Gods & Kings expansion, it currently lacks features from the Brave New World expansion, such as espionage.

The game boasts a robust modding system, allowing players to create and share custom civilizations, units, buildings, and scenarios. Mods can be easily installed through the in-game interface, and the game supports alternative tilesets and community-created content.

Unciv also offers a multiplayer mode where players take turns asynchronously, with notifications sent via a community-run Discord bot to keep players informed of their turn.

Development and Community

Written in Kotlin and built using the LibGDX framework, Unciv is actively developed with frequent updates, typically 1–2 per week, focusing on bug fixes and feature enhancements . The project has attracted over 460 contributors, including developers, translators, and modders.
